All well plates suffer from the edge effect. That is, rows of wells on the edge of a plate are more exposed and less insulated than interior wells which makes them hotter and experience higher evaporation rates. This leads to a temperature and evaporation gradient from the outside to inside rows of a plate which can result in inconsistent experimental results.
Good news is, Nest has a cost effective solution to the edge effect. Our low evaporation EDGE plates feature channels around the wells that can be filled with liquid (ideally sterile water) to act as a temperature buffer. All channels are interconnected allowing for efficient heat transfer between rows, eliminating the edge effect.
All Nest cell culture plates also feature alphanumeric markings to make it easy to keep track of cultures. Each well also features a raised rim to reduce evaporation and cross-contamination. Plates feature grooves and feet for stable stacking. Nest plates also feature an SBS/ANSI footprint which makes them compatible with automated plate handlers for high throughput work.
