Nest Scientific
NEST GelNest Matrix, Growth Factor Reduced, Phenol Red-Free, LDEV-Free, 5 mL/bottle, 1 bottle/bag - 211242
GelNest™ is a basement membrane product identical in composition and performance to Corning® Matrigel® Matrix. GelNest™ Matrix extracted from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) mouse sarcomas using genetically identical mouse lines and SOP's. EHS tumors contain plentiful ECM proteins such as laminin (60% ), collagen IV (30%), heparan sulfate proteoglycans, nidogen (8%), and several growth factors.
Part number 211242 has the same ECM composition as standard GelNest™ Matrix but the concentration of growth factors has been reduced and the phenol red indicator removed. This the "cleanest" version of GelNest™ Matrix suitable for the most sensitive assays.
Equivalent to Corning:
- 356231
- 354263
With less growth factor present cell growth and differentiation is reduced. This is ideal for culture applications that require highly specific media composition. It is also useful for gene expression studies where growth factors can be confounding variable. Likewise, phenol red can exhibit estrogenic activity in some cell lines and as the name implies, is red. Removing the phenol makes 211242 ideal for applications involving steroid sensitive cell lines and colorimetric assays.
The column labeled "Typical GF Concentration in" shows the typical concentrations in growth factor reduced GelNest™ Matrix.
Please note this formulation contains phenol red as an indicator. When frozen the color may differ from yellow to dark red. This is normal and results from the interaction of carbon dioxide, the bicarbonate buffer and phenol red. The color variation is harmless and goes away when the product reaches temperature and carbon dioxide equilibrium in the incubator.
